Texans safety Justin Reid: Wrist not 100 percent, but making progress

Houston Texans safety Justin Reid has not fully recovered from wrist surgery in January, but he is still confident about his progress.

The second-year safety met with the Houston media during the first week of organized team activities Tuesday at NRG Stadium and gave a percentage of where he is at with his recovery.

“Not 100 percent yet but feeling really, really good about it,” Reid said. “I’ve been making great progress. Our training staff here and being in Houston with the (Texas) Medical Center and all the help that we have here with it, it’s been making a lot of progress and I’m excited about where it’ll be by the time the season comes around.”

Reid was seen during the media portion of practice wearing a red cast on his left hand. For what the second-year safety from Stanford may not have been able to do on the field, he has made up for off the field as a resource to other secondary players, especially free agents such as safety Tashaun Gipson.

“For me, it’s just helping them get acclimated to our playbook and the way we do things around here, and any questions they might have, just be there for them and help them get settled in with it,” said Reid.

In 2018, the third-round pick, the first draft choice of the general manager Brian Gaine era, collected 88 combined tackles and was tied with safety Andre Hal for the team lead with three interceptions. Reid played all 16 games for Houston and started in 12 of them.
