Texans safety Justin Reid wants to make the Pro Football Hall of Fame

Houston Texans safety Justin Reid wants to have a meaningful, long-lasting career in the NFL, not stick around for a few seasons with a couple teams.

“I have very big goals for myself in my life,” Reid elaborated in an interview with Texans TV. “First and foremost, I’m 100 percent into my football career. I want to be a Hall of Famer. I want to play 12 years, 15 years if I can.”

The former 2018 third-round pick from Stanford, the first pick of the general manager Brian Gaine era, says that cornerback Johnathan Joseph, who will be 35 years old entering Week 1 of his 14th season, has set the standard for longevity in the league.

“I want to play in the league a long time,” said Reid.

Reid’s rookie season featured 88 combined tackles, three interceptions, one returned for a 101-yard touchdown, a forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries in 16 games, 12 of which he started. The 21-year-old was tied with safety Andre Hal for the team-high in picks, finished fourth in combined tackles, and was one of three Texans to return an interception for a touchdown.

The play of Reid in 2018 gave the club confidence that they filled the position. If Reid can sustain a high level of play across many 16-game seasons, he could end up in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Of course, there is an element of postseason success that has to come into a candidate’s play, and so far, Reid’s teams have appeared in one playoff game with no wins.
