Texans safety Justin Reid earns $293K bonus for rookie season

Houston Texans safety Justin Reid had a remarkable rookie season, and he will be rewarded for it.

According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, under the NFL’s annual performance-based pay system, the 2018 third-round pick from Stanford will earn $293,739 under a benefit in the collective bargaining agreement that compensates players based on their playing time and salary. That money will not count against the salary cap.

Reid had a $480,000 base salary and was 25th in the NFL in performance-based pay. The safety played in all 16 games, starting in 12 of them, and recorded 88 combined tackles, 10 pass breakups, three interceptions, one returned for a 101-yard touchdown, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery.
