The Houston Texans faced an interesting decision after quarterback Deshaun Watson threw a 1-yard touchdown pass to receiver Brandin Cooks to extend Houston’s lead 36-29 over the Tennessee Titans Sunday at Nissan Stadium.
Interim coach Romeo Crennel decided to stay aggressive and have the offense go for two rather than kick the extra point and make it an eight-point game, which would have forced Tennessee to score a touchdown and a two-pointer to tie the game.
Safety Justin Reid told reporters after the game the decision to go for two didn’t bother him at all.
“I don’t feel bad about it at all,” said Reid, who finished with seven tackles, a pass breakup, and a blocked field goal. “We wanted to win the game. And I support that aggressiveness. It worked out for us last week. And had we converted on the two-point conversion, this would be a totally different conversation. So, it is what it is.”
The Texans failed to convert the two-point conversion. With 1:50 left in regulation, the Titans drove 75 yards in nine plays to tie the game with quarterback Ryan Tannehill throwing a 7-yard touchdown pass to receiver A.J. Brown.
In overtime, the Titans won the toss and drove 82 yards with running back Derrick Henry capping off the victorious drive with a 5-yard touchdown run from the wildcat formation.
The Texans fall to 1-5 on the season with a 1-1 record in the division and a 1-4 record in the conference. Houston will continue to be more aggressive as they seek wins to save their season.
