Texans RT Tytus Howard is accustomed to changes at offensive line

Four weeks, four offensive lines. Over the first quarter of play, the Houston Texans have switched through lineman to combat injuries and figure out their long-term unit.

Rookie right tackle Tytus Howard is a key piece to the line’s constant change. He didn’t play in Week 1, found a starting job at left guard Week 2 and then settled into the right tackle position Week 3 onwards.

Though Howard has a home at right tackle, Houston continues to shuffle through lineman. In Week 4, Greg Mancz found himself starting at right guard in place of Zach Fulton, who was flagged as injured after the game started.

For Howard, the changes aren’t anything new; the Texans prep their offensive line for it.

“We practice every day and we rotate guys in and out. So we get used to playing with everybody,” Howard told reporters on Monday.

“We got guys like Roderick [Johnson], I play beside him every day,” Howard continued. “So, I know if something comes in the game, I’ve already practiced with him, so we all know how to play together.”

Though Howard is comfortable with changes at offensive line, the Texans are likely hoping that they stop, as four different units in four weeks doesn’t necessarily help with continuity.
