Texans rookie CB Lonnie Johnson leaves practice with leg injury

Houston Texans rookie cornerback Lonnie Johnson left practice Sunday with an ice pack on his left leg.

The second-round pick from Kentucky had spotty attendance during the club’s offseason workouts, which put an even higher premium on training camp reps.

Coach Bill O’Brien told reporters Sunday that he did not know the severity of Johnson’s injury.

Johnson was in the mix for playing time going against veteran cornerbacks in Aaron Colvin, Bradley Roby, and Briean Boddy-Calhoun. In terms of how it affects the Texans, the impact is minimal. However, in terms of Johnson’s development, it does help his acclimation to the NFL to miss any such reps. The fomer Wildcat will look for a speedy recovery and return to the practice field.
