Texans receiver DeAndre Hopkins working on getting ‘faster and stronger’ for 2019

Houston Texans All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins is arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL, but that isn’t stopping him trying to improve.

Speaking to Drew Dougherty of Texans TV in Nashville at the NFL draft Thursday, Hopkins was asked what he has been working on this offseason after he spent last year’s working on his hands.

“I’ve been working on my speed, trying to get faster and stronger,” Hopkins said. “Those are two things I feel like I can always improve on. I haven’t always been the fastest guy and I always haven’t been the strongest.”

Hopkins may not be Houston’s fastest receiver with the speedster Will Fuller lined up opposite him, but he is certainly no slouch. Despite this, he clearly believes it’s an element of his game he wants to work on and he went on to indicate that it might help his durability.

“I don’t want the same thing that happened to me last year. And I feel like I could’ve helped that Colts game, going out with a shoulder injury in the second quarter, I feel like if I can work on my body and prepare better, I can be better for my team,” said Hopkins.

As Texans Wire reported from NRG Stadium on Jan. 5, Hopkins gutted it out in the 21-7 AFC wild-card loss to the Indianapolis Colts with a grade three AC joint sprain as NFL Network’s James Palmer confirmed.

The Texans will surely be hoping that they can avoid injuring their star wideout yet again this season, given that consistency and availability has been key to Hopkins’ success in Houston so far.
