Texans receive no 2019 compensatory picks

It is official. The Houston Texans did not receive any compensatory picks for the 2019 NFL draft.

In order to qualify for compensatory picks, the number of free agents a team signs can’t exceed the number of free agents they lost. Furthermore, there is a mysterious calculus that involves salary, playing time, and postseason accolades.

By singing guards Senio Kelemete and Zach Fulton in free agency last offseason along with safety Tyrann Mathieu and tackle Seantrel Henderson, the Texans essentially added way to many contributors via free agency to qualify for compensatory picks.

In 2018, the Texans had three compensatory picks in tight end Jordan Akins (third round), tight end Jordan Thomas (sixth round), and linebacker Peter Kalambayi (sixth round).
