Texans RB Lamar Miller carted off field versus Cowboys

A strong showing is what the Houston Texans hoped for in the third preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium Saturday night. Instead, they had another case of bad luck hit the first-team offense in preseason.

Running back Lamar Miller was dropped for a loss of a yard on a first-and-10 from the Texans’ 31-yard line in the first quarter with 13:48 to play. It was an optimistic start to the game for Houston as they turned Dallas’ first-team offense three-and-out. Instead, Miller went down, and it appeared the Pro Bowler injured his left leg, according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. The cart was called out for Miller.

If anything were to keep Miller sidelined heading into Week 1 at the New Orleans Saints on Sept. 9, the Texans would need the down-roster backs in Taiwan Jones, Buddy Howell, Josh Ferguson, Damarea Crockett, and Karan Higdon to really step up in the running game. Newly acquired running back Duke Johnson, formerly of the Cleveland Browns, won’t be enough.
