Texans RB D’Onta Foreman says he feels better now than he ever did even in college

D’Onta Foreman claims he is feeling better than he ever did when he was playing for the Texas Longhorns three years ago.

The Houston Texans running back sustained a torn Achilles in 2017 that ended his rookie season and made just two appearances last year as he struggled to recover. Now, entering his third season with the Texans, Foreman would have to go back to his time at Texas City High School for a comparison.

“I was talking to somebody else about that,” Foreman told the media during the second week of organized team activities at Methodist Training Center. “I was telling them that coming into this OTA, I feel way better than I even felt coming into any season that I had at the University of Texas, possibly even high school.”

As Foreman recovered from his Achilles injury sustained on Nov. 19, 2017, in a 31-21 win over the Arizona Cardinals at NRG Stadium, he went through cycles of feeling confident and despondent about his rehabilitation. It helped him appreciate how fleeting the chance to play pro football really is.

Said Foreman: “Anybody can get injured. You can be at your high and then be at the lowest in a split second. Me being able to understand that, I just want to come out and put everything on the line and have a great offseason.”

Foreman was at his highest point when his Achilles injury happened. Against the Cardinals, the former 2016 Doak Walker Award winner gained 65 yards and scored two touchdowns on 10 carries. Incidentally, the play that he tore his Achilles was a 34-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

“Honestly, I think that was the best game of my rookie season,” Foreman said. “It ended — it’s just so crazy. I don’t know. I don’t really like thinking about it, to be honest.”

As Foreman puts behind the memories of his best game, but worst moment, of his career, the Texans hope to gain a complementary back to starter Lamar Miller.
