Texans RB D’Onta Foreman is starting over with a chip on his shoulder

Running back D’Onta Foreman started his career with the Houston Texans full of promise, shining at times his rookie year in 2017. However, after a horrendous Achilles injury ended his year prematurely and ruled him out of any meaningful appearances in 2018, the now-healthy Foreman feels he has something to prove.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday after practice, Foreman said he is moving really well and is back to full health.

“I feel like I’m moving really good,” Foreman told reporters during the second week of organized team activities. “I feel basically back to normal. I still have days where I’m kind of sore but that was to be expected. Other than that, when I’m out on the field, I feel pretty good.”

This will come as music to the ears of Texans fans hoping that the run game can be improved.

“I’ve grown a lot,” said Foreman. “I went through a lot of ups and downs within that time — mentally, physically. I’m just happy to be back playing football. That’s the main thing. That’s always been something I really want to do, is just play football.”

Though the former Texas Longhorn is entering his third season in the NFL, in some ways, he feels he is starting all over, but with the same chip on his shoulder.

Said Foreman: “Now that I’m back playing football I just feel like everything is going in the right direction. That’s my main focus, is just continuing to do what I’m doing and just be productive on the field.”

Foreman will have the opportunity to contribute to the Texans run game. Though Lamar Miller is indubitably the starter, there is no more Alfred Blue, which opens up the backup role behind Miller. However, the Texans may not have used a third-round pick in 2017 on Foreman for him to be Miller’s backup. In 2019, Foreman will have to prove he can be more than a complementary back.
