Texans RB D’Onta Foreman admits to doing ‘extra stuff’ for the first time in the offseason

There was a perception regarding D’Onta Foreman that the Houston Texans running back showed up to practice and game days and let his natural ability take over. Who needed to go the extra mile away from the game?

Not anymore.

“This was really the first time where I really just started to take the initiative to do extra stuff with our body and making sure that I wasn’t having any pain anywhere,” Foreman told reporters Saturday at Methodist Training Center. “I’ve just got to keep that up.”

The former 2016 Doak Walker Award winner spent all aspects of his 2018 season recovering from a torn Achilles sustained on Nov. 19, 2017, his rookie season. While staying focused on himself and getting in a position to help the team, Foreman was only able to appear in one regular season game.

The 23-year-old has had a relatively pain free offseason for the first time since his high school playing days, and it involved a comprehensive approach to his training.

Said Foreman: “Really I touched everything. From conditioning to strength, to lower body strength, to just getting treatment, making sure my Achilles and everything in my body is just aligned.”

The Texas City native feels comfortable with his body, including Achilles, feeling “a lot better.”

“You know everything is clean,” Foreman said. “Everything is rolling. It’s a long process, but you’ve got to keep going day by day.”

The Texans have two more practices until their first day off on Tuesday. As camp rolls on, Foreman will take every effort to feel good and help ensure the Texans run game has quality backs.
