Texans RB coach: D’Onta Foreman ‘light-years ahead’ in his recovery

Houston Texans running backs coach Danny Barrett believes that D’Onta Foreman has made huge strides in his recovery from a torn Achilles in his rookie season.

The former 2016 Doak Walker Award winner played in three games, including one playoff contest, last season. However, Foreman has put the recovery behind him and looks ready to play ball.

“He’s light-years ahead of where he was last year at this time, coming off the injury and everything,” Barrett said. “I still think he’s continuing to work hard. I think he’s had a good offseason to date. The time away from here, I thought was well spent for himself. Getting ready to go physically, and I think mentally, right now, is what I look at is each and every day.”

Foreman claimed that he has felt the best he ever has since high school. If what Foreman is saying is accurate, then no doubt it would be readily available for his coaches to see.

Said Barrett: “Being consistent mentally as far as being locked in to what we’re trying to do and improve on the little things and trying to get back to that form in which we saw prior to me coming into here, which was the 2017 season, his first year.”

Barrett came to the Texans in 2018 as the running backs coach after working at Central Florida. In other words, the only Foreman that Barrett has known is an injured Foreman rehabilitating from a devastating injury.

Foreman’s injury occurred in his best game to date with the Texans on Nov. 19, 2017. The former Texas Longhorn rushed for 65 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries in a 31-21 win over the Arizona Cardinals at NRG Stadium. The injury occurred on a 34-yard touchdown run that helped the Texans ice the contest midway through the fourth quarter.
