Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson visiting Israel during final offseason break

The final doldrums of the offseason between the break of minicamp and the start of training camp present over a month’s span for players to unwind and get away from football.

Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson is using that time to tour Israel with his trainer, Quincy Avery.

“I have been blessed to visit many countries around the world, but the chance to visit the Holy Land, see the sites and meet the people of this special place, truly is a special blessing and an amazing opportunity,” Watson said.

Watson arrived Tuesday for a week-long tour arranged and co-sponsored by America’s Voices in Israel, a non-profit organization whose mission is, “to foster greater understanding of Israel in the United States, by reaching out to high-profile personalities and opinion leader,” according to a statement from the group.

The Pro Bowl signal caller will swim in the Dead Sea, visit Shiloh and Masada, and taste the various food at Jerusalem’s Machane Yehuda Market.

“This is a part of the world which gets a lot of attention internationally, and this is a chance for me to look beyond the headlines and learn more about the history and culture of this land,” Watson said.

Watson’s experience will also be filmed as part of a documentary on his triumphs both on and off the field.
