To many of his peers, Deshaun Watson has always been known to lead by example, and just like before, the Houston Texans star quarterback scores big again as he trained kids on how to succeed at his position
It all came together as Watson hosted his Deshaun Watson Football ProCamp at Clemson University’s Indoor / Outdoor Football Practice Facility, open to grades first through eighth for both boys and girls
With all the preparation, training drills and advice that Watson gave to aspiring athletes, one thing he took with him as he left the camp was “joy”
“Just to see all the kids come out and see the parents allow their kids to come out with me is a blessing,” Watson said. “It gives me so much joy that Clemson is still behind me and supporting me and this school to be able to try and touch each one of these kids as I can.”
The Pro Bowler also looked back on past memories when he was a kid attending camps with pro athletes
“When I was a young kid I went to camps like this too,” said Watson. “I lived in Atlanta so I went to all the Falcons camps and those NFL players touched me and inspired me, just by giving me a high five and throwing the football to me. It gave me joy and it gave me motivation.”
Now that Watson is the pro athlete, he looks to use a scintilla of his influence to allow other kids the same experience he once had growing up.
Said Watson: “With the opportunity that I have to give and come back and do the same thing, If I can at least touch one kid out of 450 kids I’m going to at least try to improve the community and have them have joy and motivation to help them fulfill their dreams.”
As for Watson, more joy will be headed his way, as his former head coach Dabo Swinney and the Clemson university staff, are building a Habitat for Humanity home in Clemson, in honor of Watson.
