Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson baptized in Jordan River in Israel

Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson is spending his offseason on personal enrichment by visiting Israel and the various sacred sites across the land.

Watson is a guest of the nonprofit America’s Voices in Israel that seeks, “to foster greater understanding of Israel in the United States, by reaching out to high-profile personalities and opinion leaders,” according to the organization.

After touring the village of Capernaum and standing in the ruins of the towns former synagogue, according to the press release, he concluded his day by visiting Yardenit Baptism site on the banks of the Jordan River, donned a white robe, and was baptized in the waters.

“It is simply overwhelming,” Watson said in the press release. “To be baptized in the waters of the Jordan River, to sail on the Sea of the Galilee, and visit one of the first towns where Jesus preached his Gospel — I am truly in awe of this wonderful land and the wonderful people who live here.”

Having arrived earlier this week, the Pro Bowler had already visited Jerusalem, and the Old City, before heading to northern Israel on Wednesday to add the Sea of Galilee and the Mount of Beatitudes to his list of accomplishments this week.

“Every visitor to these sites feels the uniqueness of the place,” Bracha Katsof of America’s Voices in Israel said, “whether it’s their first time or the fiftieth time. For Jews, Christians, Muslims, and all those of faith especially, the history of the land comes to life and it has been a privilege to see Deshaun and Quincy make this special journey. I hope many more people will be inspired to come, experience this for themselves, and learn more about Israel.”

While Watson has been away in Israel, he has not forgotten to better himself as a football player.
