Texans' QB Stroud Misses Practice, Mills Poised for Sunday Start

- Texans’ QB C.J. Stroud is currently in concussion protocol.

The Houston Texans are currently dealing with an unexpected situation as their starting quarterback, C.J. Stroud, continues to undergo the league's concussion evaluation procedure. This marks the second consecutive day that Stroud has been barred from participating in the team's practice due to his health status.

Stroud's continuity in the NFL’s concussion protocol means that his availability for the team's upcoming game this Sunday is unclear. Rule-enforced precautions surrounding head injuries mean that Stroud cannot return to the field of play until he has successfully undergone a series of tests indicating healthy brain function. These tests assess factors such as memory, concentration, balance, and coordination. The player must also remain asymptomatic during physical activities before being given the go-ahead to play.

As a result of Stroud's prolonged absence, Davis Mills, the backup quarterback, is now preparing to potentially become the starting quarterback in this week's vital NFL matchup. While this would not be an ideal scenario for the Texans given Mills' relative lack of experience, it may be the only feasible option if Stroud does not clear concussion protocol prior to game time.

Mills has previously played as the Texans' starting quarterback. Despite him being relatively new to the NFL, he has gained a reputation for his ability to keep calm under pressure, making swift and accurate decisions when it matters the most. This Sunday may test the full extent of his skills, particularly if Stroud is unable to play.

The Texans are likely to be at a disadvantage without Stroud, who has consistently proven himself as a reliable and effective starter, placing the team in a challenging position. Head Coach David Culley and his staff have some tough decisions to make surrounding the game strategy and roster if their top player remains out of action.

However, the Texans have reiterated their commitment to player safety as the highest priority, stating that they will not rush Stroud back onto the field. As the uncertainty continues to loom, one thing is clear - Mills is ready to step up if required and lead his team this Sunday.
