Texans QB Joe Webb undergoes foot surgery

Houston Texans quarterback Joe Webb underwent foot surgery on Wednesday, according to Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson. He is currently on the injured reserve.

Webb, the main quarterback in preseason football for Houston, sustained the foot injury in the team’s preseason finale against the Los Angeles Rams last Thursday.

On the injury, coach Bill O’Brien said: “Joe Webb is a great teammate and a guy in our locker room that’s been an awesome addition to the locker room since the day he walked in the door.”

Not just a quarterback, Webb served as a special-teamer and emergency wide receiver in 2018. Now, it appears that the Texans will be without his versatile skill set for some time.

To replace Webb, the Texans brought in Alex McGough, formerly of the Jacksonville Jaguars, to the practice squad. Houston currently has two quarterbacks on the 53-man roster: Deshaun Watson and A.J. McCarron. Webb would’ve likely been the third-stringer if he were to be healthy.
