Texans QB Joe Webb ‘learned a lot’ in 28-26 preseason loss to Packers

Houston Texans third-string quarterback Joe Webb likely didn’t expect to play the entirety of a preseason game on Thursday night. But, an injury to A.J. McCarron forced his hand, as the Texans sat Deshaun Watson and recent signee Jordan Ta’amu for the night.

Webb threw for 286 yards and one touchdown to two interceptions. He chipped in a team-leading 47 yards to his efforts.

Webb and the Texans lost the game 28-26, but he got a lot out of the experience.

“I learned a lot. I learned a lot about my teammates and the way they fought. We fought hard,” Webb told reporters after the game.

The Texans scored a last-minute touchdown on a Josh Ferguson run, but it wasn’t enough to pull them over the Packers; as they melted the clock after. For Webb, in a preseason game, that’s enough.

Said Webb: “We fought until the end. We had a chance to win at the end. That’s all you can ask for.”

The Texans will be back in Houston for Thursday’s preseason game against the Detroit Lions. Webb should expect to receive the bulk of the quarterbacking snaps, and may play another full game if Ta’amu isn’t ready; though, it’s unlikely.
