Texans QB Deshaun Watson to miss ‘Play Ball!’ call for World Series Game 7 due to swollen eye

Deshaun Watson won’t be able to participate in Wednesday night’s Game 7 World Series festivities. Rather than make the “Play Ball!” call before the finale between the Houston Astros and Washington Nationals, the Texans quarterback will be recovering from an eye injury.

According to Mark Berman of FOX 26 Houston, Watson will not be attending the event due to a setback in his left eye injury — an injury he sustained via a kick from Oakland Raiders defensive end Arden Key on Sunday.

Watson will fly with the team to London on Thursday and is slated to play against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. Nonetheless, with the quarterback dealing with swelling on his left eye, the Texans are playing it safe by getting him out of bright lights.

On Tuesday, at his inaugural charity event, Watson said his bloodshot eye is fine. “I’m feeling well. It’s just the eyeball is red a little bit, it’s still swollen,” said the quarterback. ““I’m all good and ready to go.”

Despite the injury, Watson practiced with the team on Wednesday at NRG Stadium.
