Texans QB Deshaun Watson teams up with Gatorade to help Houston kids ‘Beat the Heat’

Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson loves great teammates and good causes, and the Pro Bowl quarterback found that combination Wednesday at YMCA of Greater Houston.

Though rainy weather forced the event indoors, Watson held a camp as part of Gatorade’s annual “Beat the Heat Program,” which teaches young kids about hydration in the summer months.

“It’s a blessing to be able to be with Gatorade,” Watson said. “They’ve been great for me. I’ve been great for them. It’s been a great partnership and we’re just going to continue to go from there. It’s a blessing to be able to use my platform and be able to share that advice and to share their brand and continue to have more people drawn to it and be able to share hydration.”

Now in its 15th year, Gatorade’s “Beat the Heat” program has partnered with various NFL players to raise awareness among athletes, coaches, and parents on how proper hydration can help lower the number of heat-related illnesses that occur during athletic activity in the summer months.

“Beat the Heat with Gatorade is a great cause for the young kids to be able to learn about hydration, learn about how to take care of their bodies because that’s very important, especially playing sports but just life in general,” Watson explained. “So, just being able to share that advice and being able to share those tips and let them spread it and let us spread it as much as we can. It’s always good.”

Watson, who grew up in Georgia where the heat, knows all about summer heat and insists even non-athletes can learn something from the “Beat the Heat” initiative.

“Like I said before, hydration is something that is very important for all of us, not just people that play sports,” said Watson.
