Texans QB Deshaun Watson sporting visor to protect eye

New country, new look. On Friday, in London, England, at London Irish’s Hazelwood Training Base, Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson donned a new accessory: a clear Oakley visor.

Watson is wearing the visor in practice to protect his bloodshot and swollen left eye, which was kicked by Oakland Raiders defensive end Arden Key in last Sunday’s win.

The third-year quarterback was asked about the possibility of wearing a visor on Wednesday. He stated that nothing is definite, and only Sunday will tell.

“We’re just kind of going with the flow and seeing how the week kind of goes,” Watson said on Wednesday. “I’ve worn a visor before. It’s not a big deal, but it’s something that we’ll know as the week continues.”

Watson noted that wearing one does not affect how he plays on Sundays. He previously wore a visor at Clemson from time-to-time.

After Friday’s practice, coach Bill O’Brien said on the matter: “I don’t know if he will wear it on game day, he’s kind of checking it out.”

Visor or not, Watson will be playing on Sunday at Wembley Stadium against the Jacksonville Jaguars, barring an unforeseen change in circumstances. On Wednesday, he said he feels good, despite the eye showing physical signs of damage.

“I feel fine,” Watson said. “It looks bad. It’s going to look worse before it actually gets better, but I’m actually good. I’m all good.”

The reigning AFC Offensive Player of the Month, Watson is looking to put on a show for an international audience on Sunday. Those across the pond could see him do so with a new look.

If Watson does intend on wearing a visor, he will wear the slightly tinted Oakley one. Unless the NFL allows him to wear a shaded one for medical purposes, which he could get the pass to do so considering he is wearing one to protect his eye.
