Texans QB Deshaun Watson shines in lone drive against the Lions

The Houston Texans got a hint of year-three of the Deshaun Watson era on Saturday. The quarterback trotted out for one drive against the Detroit Lions, finishing with six on a 4-yard pass to DeAndre Hopkins.

Watson went 5-for-7 for 60 yards on the 75-yard touchdown drive. A Texans offensive line consisting of (left to right) Roderick Johnson, Tytus Howard, Zach Fulton, Max Scharping, and Seantrel Henderson was able to keep the Lions defensive line away from the quarterback.

Watson didn’t take a sack, nor was he pressured heavily in the drive. His lone incompletions came on a Vyncint Smith fade to the endzone and a well-guarded (by Darius Slay) target to Hopkins at the goal line.

“It was good to be out there, and get some live action,” Watson told Texans TV sideline reporter Drew Dougherty in the second half. “[I’m] trying to get myself ready and prepared for the real season. But each and every game I make sure I’m focused and locked in.”

Watson was focused and locking in on Saturday night.
