Texans QB Deshaun Watson says he is praying for Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes following injury

The NFL really is a brotherhood.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes injured his knee during the team’s game at the Denver Broncos on Thursday night. The 2018 NFL MVP left the game in the second quarter, and Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson took to Twitter to express his thoughts and prayers for Mahomes following his departure.

According to Watson, he and Mahomes share a friendship that goes back to when they were in high school and going to various quarterback camps. They both went in the first round of the 2017 NFL draft and ended up in the same conference.

However, Watson doesn’t see Mahomes as a rival.

“We kind of go way back from early college days being able to work out in Southern California together with Jordan Palmer and different other coaches and throughout college and different camps,” Watson told reporters on Oct. 9 “We’re real good friends and have a lot of mutual friends and things in common.”

The Texans defeated the Chiefs 31-24 in Week 6 at Arrowhead Stadium and dropped the AFC West front-runners to 4-2. While the Chiefs were ahead 20-6 against the Broncos with backup Matt Moore at the helm, Kansas City is hopeful Watson’s prayers work and they can get Mahomes back into the lineup rather expeditiously.
