Texans QB Deshaun Watson’s goal is to play well past age 40

The Houston Texans and quarterback Deshaun Watson will get to face the ageless Drew Brees in New Orleans on Monday.

At 40 years old, Brees has shown few signs of aging. Last season, he led his team to the NFC championship game and finished second in MVP voting behind the Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes, who is 17 years younger.

Brees’ 19-year NFL career is just a bit younger than Watson’s age (23). The Texans quarterback wants to top the Saints quarterback’s longevity.

When asked Tuesday if he envisions himself playing until 40, Watson said he wants to “play until I’m 43 or 45, or however long,” However, he added that he’ll “try to take it one year at a time.”

Watson will need exceptional play and exceptional luck to hit the age-40 mark. But Texans brass and their fans must know one thing: Prepare to see Watson play in the NFL for a long time.
