Texans QB Deshaun Watson once attended football camp run by Michael Vick

Imagine all that Deshaun Watson learned at the feet of former NFL Pro Bowl quarterback Michael Vick.

That is exactly what happened in the Houston Texans franchise quarterback’s youth, as he recounted Sunday afternoon the sundry Atlanta Falcons camps he attended. According to KTRK in Houston, Watson reminisced on the fun times he had at the Falcons players’ camps when he was a kid.

“I was going to the Michael Vick camp. The Jason Griffin camp. The Warrick Dunn camp. The Roddy White camp. I was going to all those camps. And in a few years, I was working with the Falcons. It was an inspiring, motivating moment at that time, because I knew that’s what I wanted to be when I grew up,” Watson said.

If by “what I wanted to be,” Watson means a Pro Bowl quarterback, then consider that goal achieved.

Watson and Vick have similar games in their tremendous escapability in the pocket. However, Watson tends to use his legs more to buy time for bigger targets downfield while Vick used his legs to get upfield.

Nonetheless, the thought of Watson – who would eventually go on to lead Clemson to a College Football Playoff National Championship in 2017 –  learning about the fundamentals of the game from Vick is intriguing.
