Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson had a Hall of Fame worthy performance in the club’s 53-32 win over the Atlanta Falcons in Week 5 at NRG Stadium.
For his efforts, the Pro Bowl signal caller has been nominated for FedEx Air Player of the Week for Week 5. Watson completed 28 off 33 passes for 426 yards, five touchdowns, zero interceptions, and posted a 158.3 passer rating. For Texans’ fans, the most encouraging stat from the performance were the zero sacks taken, just the second time in his career that he played a game for Houston and was not sacked.
Other nominees include New Orleans Saints quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who went 26-of-34 for 314 yards, four touchdowns, an interception, and posted a 131.3 passer rating in the club’s 31-24 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is the third nominee. The Super Bowl winner completed 17 of 23 passes for 268 yards, four touchdowns, compiling a 151.8 passer rating en route to a 30-29 win over the Los Angeles Rams.
FedEx will award a $2,000 donation in the winning player’s name to the USO.
Fans can have until Thursday at 2:00 p.m. CT to vote, and have two places to do cast their ballots. The first is at NFL.com/FedEx and the second is at the NFL’s official Twitter page.
Watson was nominated in Week 3 for his efforts in the Texans’ 27-20 win at the Los Angeles Chargers. However, Watson was 25-of-34 for 351 yards, three touchdowns, and had a 135.8 passer rating. The former 2017 first-round pick’s Week 5 performance is hardly just nomination-worthy; he has a decent shot of winning the FedEx Air Player of the Week.
