Texans QB Deshaun Watson named AFC Offensive Player of the Week

Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson earned national recognition for his efforts in the team’s 27-20 win over the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 3.

The third-year signal-caller was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week on Wednesday.

Watson completed 25-of-34 passes for 351 yards, three touchdowns, and posted a 135.8 rating all the while taking just two sacks. Watson favored his tight ends against the Chargers as he threw scoring passes to Jordan Akins of 15 and 53 yards and to Darren Fells for 16 yards. It was also the first 300-yard passing performance Watson has had in a win since Oct. 7, 2018, when he threw for 375 in a 19-16 overtime win against the Dallas Cowboys.

It is the first time since Week 4 of 2017 that Watson has been named player of the week, and the 45th instance of a Texans player winning player of the week. Last week, outside linebacker Whitney Mercilus was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week.

Watson joins former quarterback Matt Schaub, running back Arian Foster, and receiver Andre Johnson as the only Texans player to win multiple offensive player of the week awards.
