Texans QB Deshaun Watson explains missed deep throws

On Sunday, Deshaun Watson took two deep-ball attempts to swing the momentum to the Houston Texans side. He failed to connect on both.

With 1:01 left in the second quarter, Watson heaved a deep-ball to Will Fuller. If completed, it would’ve been a 75-yard touchdown with 54 air yards. However, the pass was just ahead of the receiver. Incomplete.

“The (Will) Fuller play, I thought overthrew [it],” said Watson after the game. “He said, you know, he could have had it. Just kind of ran off his fingertips.”

Four plays into the second half Watson attempted another deep-ball. He searched for DeAndre Hopkins. But, he didn’t find him. The ball was a few yards right of Hopkins’ arms. Despite the receivers out-of-this-world catch radius, there wasn’t a way he’d turn it into a 68-yard touchdown.

“Hop (DeAndre Hopkins), I sailed it,” said Watson. “We were both on different angles. I thought he was going across the field and he was going more vertical.”

Ultimately, Watson failed to connect on both.

As he said, “I’ve just got to hit those. Those are two important plays that can change the ballgame.”

There is nobody Watson is blaming.

“You have to put that on myself,” said Watson. “I’m the one that’s throwing the ball and directing it, and next time, I’ll make sure I hit it.”

Luckily for Texans faithful, Watson stayed late to work on his game, likely including his deep ball throwing.
