Texans QB Deshaun Watson continues to learn on and off the field

Houston Texans captain and starting quarterback Deshaun Watson is a leader by example.

His hard work off the field is evident, and it would appear that he has picked up where he left off during the second week of organized team activities. As a young quarterback, Watson still has much to learn regarding reading defenses. And according to coach Bill O’Brien, that happens both on the field and through good old fashioned film study.

It definitely comes from film work and preparation and watching tape and seeing things,” O’Brien said. “He has a lot of input into what he sees, what he thinks, and then, obviously, when you go against our defense, you’re seeing a lot of different looks, you’re seeing different packages, different personnel packages, different coverages, blitz packages, fronts. So, you definitely get a lot of experience on the field at it, but you also get it in the classroom.”

Romeo Crennel’s defense can be tough to play in due to his willingness to frequently change the system or look, but the advantage to this is that it will help Watson adjust to multiple different styles of defenses when it comes to the regular season.

No doubt it will pay off as the season unfolds. If the unfold occurs Week 1 at the New Orleans Saints, even better.
