Texans QB Davis Mills looking forward to the return of WRs Brandin Cooks, Nico Collins

The Houston Texans may get a little more help when they take on the New York Giants in Week 10.

Receiver Nico Collins, who has missed the past two weeks with a groin injury, was limited in practice on Wednesday. Receiver Brandin Cooks, who missed Week 9’s Thursday night tilt with the Philadelphia Eagles, missed practice on Wednesday with a wrist injury. However, missing the initial practice of the week was regular for Cooks before his wrist issue.

Quarterback Davis Mills believes it will be “great” to have his top two receivers return.

“I know Nico is still day-to-day, but hopefully we will get him back this week,” Mills told reporters Wednesday. “Brandin is going to be back, so excited for those guys. Obviously, both are extremely explosive, know the offense really well, and we have a lot of chemistry built up from the time we’ve had on tasks. I’m excited for both of those guys to get back into the flow of things.”

Collins had three catches for 33 yards in Week 7 when he injured his groin in the 38-20 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. The second-year wideout from Michigan has tallied 18 catches for 305 yards through six games this season, four of which he has started.

Cooks has not been as prolific through seven games as many expected with 32 catches for 354 yards and a touchdown. However, the sense is once Cooks and Mills are able to get on the same page, the passing game will elevate for Houston.

Opposing quarterbacks have compiled an 87.8 passer rating against the Giants defense, the 12th-lowest in the NFL. If Collins and Cooks are able to contribute for Houston at a high level, it should give them the firepower needed to stack their second win of the season.
