Texans QB A.J. McCarron leaves Packers joint practice after having throwing hand looked at

Houston Texans quarterback A.J. McCarron left joint practice with the Green Bay Packers early Tuesday after having his throwing hand examined on the sideline.

The former Cincinnati Bengal and Oakland Raider went to the sidelines during the joint session and had trainers take a look at his right hand.

As a result, the Texans could play more of third-string quarterback Joe Webb when the Texans take on the Green Bay Packers Thursday night at Lambeau Field to kickoff preseason for both sides.

After practice, Texans coach Bill O’Brien had no updates as to what was ailing McCarron.

“I don’t know,” O’Brien told reporters after practice. “I don’t know.”

If McCarron is not able to go, the positive is at least the injury occurred in the preseason and it gives more reps to Webb. It’s also bad news for down roster guys near the bottom end of the 90-man roster as the Texans could drop someone to make room for a fourth quarterback as McCarron takes preseason to heal up.
