Texans OTAs week 3 Twitter recap: Andre Johnson oversees receiving corps

The Houston Texans had their media portion of their third and final week of organized team activities inside the bubble at Methodist Training Center.

Texans inaugural Ring of Honor member, now scout, coach, and front office member, Andre Johnson had a strong presence with the receivers.

Johnson was able to spend time with Will Fuller, the speedy No. 2 wideout who is recovering from an ACL injury sustained during Week 8 last year.

Fuller wasn’t the only top-end Texans receiver out there, as DeAndre Hopkins was not present. That meant the reps trickled down, and it gave second-year receiver Vyncint Smith a chance to work with quarterback Deshaun Watson.

Watson was able to work with most of the receiving corps, including Isaac Whitney.

Of course, who really benefits from having Hopkins and Fuller away is Keke Coutee, the 2018 fourth-round pick who struggled to stay on the field with hamstring issues starting in training camp. Now, Coutee can build his connection with Watson.

Among the defensive backs, cornerback Jermaine Kelly had a really strong day, as evidenced by his pass breakup.

The 2018 seventh-rounder from San Jose State managed to also have an acrobatic, one-handed interception with a toe-tap on the sideline during two-minute drill that brought the entire defense off the sideline, cheering, and celebrating in the end zone.

Running back D’Onta Foreman looked smoother during the pass-catching portion of individual drills.

Speaking of which, fullback Cullen Gullaspia worked on his pass-catching prowess.

On the offensive line front, they have been able to handle the mental aspects of defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel’s looks. However, there can’t be a true evaluation of what the Texans have along the offensive line until the pads come on.

Now that OTAs are over, last is veteran mandatory minicamp next week. After that, the last of the doldrums before football is back.
