Texans OTAs week 2 Twitter recap: No Hopkins, no Fuller, no problem

The second week of organized team activities kicked off Wednesday, at least from a media perspective, as the Houston Texans continue to lay the foundation for the 2019 season.

Houston practiced outdoors at Methodist Training Center underneath overcast skies.

All-Pro wideout DeAndre Hopkins and No. 2 receiver Will Fuller did not participate, which created an abundance of reps to go around for young receivers.

For the young wideouts, this meant that they were getting balls thrown to them by Pro Bowl quarterback Deshaun Watson, which can only enhance their offseason audition for the 53-man roster.

In addition to getting darts from Watson, the young receivers also got prime coaching from one of the best in his time, Andre Johnson, who was taking part in his freelancing role as coach/scout/front office guy.

Of course, you can’t forget about the work that second-year safety Justin Reid is putting in, especially as he continues to recover from his wrist surgery in January.

While Jadeveon Clowney continues to hold out due to ongoing negotiations for a contract extension, linebacker Brennan Scarlett took his reps as an edge defender during practice.

When practice was over, the players cooled off in special cooling lockers that lower their core body temperature before making the trip on the walkway over Kirby Drive back to NRG Stadium.

The Texans will have one more week of OTAs before mandatory minicamp the week thereafter. At that point, if Clowney continues to miss practice, the team has the right to fine him.

Until then, the OTAs are a great opportunity for younger players or players who hardly get chances to step up.
