Texans OLB Whitney Mercilus sees similarities between Colts QB Jacoby Brissett and Andrew Luck

Andrew Luck is enjoying the retired life. In doing so, the Indianapolis Colts have Jacoby Brissett as their starting quarterback, who the Houston Texans will face on Sunday.

Though different quarterbacks with varying talents, Texans outside linebacker Whitney Mercilus sees similarities between the two.

“He’s a strong dude too. A guy that almost reminds me of Andrew Luck, being able to stay up and deliver and like throw the ball away or something like that,” said Mercilus on Friday. “We got to be able to disrupt him.”

Mercilus faced Jacoby Brissett when he was a rookie in 2016, as a member of the New England Patriots. He did not get a sack on the strong quarterback, as the Patriots rode out a 27-0 prime time win with Brissett managing the game in-place for Tom Brady, who was serving a four-game suspension.

Though Brissett was dealt to the Colts in 2017 as Luck didn’t play a snap due to a shoulder injury, Mercilus was out for the season by the time their season series commenced on Nov. 5, 2017.

Three years later, Mercilus will get to face Brissett for the second time with very different circumstances. Brissett is now the full-time starter on a 3-2 team, while Mercilus is a leading pass-rusher on a 4-2 Texans squad.
