Texans offensive line is working to finish

The Houston Texans offensive line doesn’t have to just protect a passer when Deshaun Watson drops back. They also have to bodyguard a runner, as Watson is one of the NFL’s greatest scrambling shot callers.

There is a problem with that. As Texans offensive coordinator Tim Kelly says, “they don’t” know where they are supposed to be when Watson scrambles. They won’t be able to know either, but they can finish plays to help keep him up when he does run.

“They don’t have eyes in the back of their head, so one thing that we continue to talk to them about is just working to finish,” said Kelly on Thursday. “Working to finish and really playing through the echo of the whistle and maintaining — just continue to work to block your guy. Because if you do, if you maintain contact with your responsibility, 4 (Deshaun Watson) is going to make something happen.”

For the Texans offensive line, unless they are mythical creatures, it’s all about doing their jobs to let Watson do his; no matter if he is using his arm or legs.
