Texans offensive coordinator Tim Kelly unsure who will call plays in 2019

The Houston Texans answered calls from fans to install a new offensive coordinator this offseason by promoting tight ends coach Tim Kelly to the role. This marks the first time he has held such a high ranking role in the NFL, and the first time Bill O’Brien will not be the offensive coordinator since George Godsey who held the role from 2015-2016.

However, as it stands it has not been announced whether O’Brien will hand over play-calling duties to the new offensive coordinator or if he plans to retain them for the time being. And rather worryingly, Kelly seems none the wiser either.

“Right now I’m just really worrying about making sure that the offense is ready for OTAs when we take the field,” Kelly said Tuesday during the final week of organized team activities. “So, I guess we will cross that bridge at a later date.”

It is slightly concerning that this major topic doesn’t seem to have been addressed by now. However, the very fact that it hasn’t would indicate that O’Brien will likely be calling plays for at least one more year in Houston.
