Texans OB Bobby Slowik officially interviewing with Commanders

Houston Texans first-year offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik remains a hot head coaching candidate this offseason.

After multiple interview requests since the season ended, Slowik will now have an in-person interview with the Washington Commanders, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, as well as a second interview with the Atlanta Falcons. The Commanders were among the teams to request an interview with Slowik already, as well as the Falcons, Seattle Seahawks and Carolina Panthers. The Tennessee Titans were another but recently hired Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan for their head coaching role.

Slowik is the architect of the Texans’ rise from the bottom of the AFC South to the top in just one season. He was also instrumental in rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud’s ascension from unproven rookie to wild card hero after Stroud tossed three first-half touchdowns in the win over the Cleveland Browns.

If the Texans lose Slowik, they could easily promote quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson up to to offensive coordinator. Johnson is gaining interest himself as well after he interviewed with the New Orleans Saints and Browns for their vacant offensive coordinator roles.

This is the price of having a great offense in the NFL, and DeMeco Ryans could have at least one of his best offensive assistants poached after just one season.
