Texans name Andre Johnson special adviser to coach, general manager

The Houston Texans hired former All-Pro receiver Andre Johnson to be a special adviser to coach Bill O’Brien and general manager Brian Gaine.

The former 2003 first-round pick for the Texans back in 2003 will have a blended role, one that involves providing assistance with coaching, scouting, and personnel issues. It is another way the Texans can continue to keep their inaugural Ring of Honor member in-house and a part of the organization.

Johnson had 1,062 receptions, 14,185 receiving yards, and 70 touchdowns in his career NFL career from 2003-16. With 1,062 receptions, that makes the former Miami Hurricane 11th on the all-time list for career receptions in the NFL.

The 37-year-old’s impact may be able to be seen immediately in free agency and the NFL draft. The fact that Johnson will have a role in coaching, scouting, and personnel means that he is getting a taste of where he wants to continue his life in pro football.
