Texans must consider Stanford running back Bryce Love

Lamar Miller and D’onta Foreman are the No. 1 and No. 2 running backs for the Houston Texans. General manager Brian Gaine is most likely going to select a running back in this year’s draft. The real question is what running backs should Gaine and Texans be looking at.

Considering the offensive line and defensive back group is going to be a heavy emphasis, Gaine will have to select a running back in later rounds of this year’s draft. Slipping in this year’s draft due to sustaining a torn ACL in his last game as a Stanford Cardinal, many will be sleeping on Bryce Love, who could turn out to be a gem of a running back.

In 2017, Love rushed for 2,118 yards and rushed for 19 touchdowns. That’s pretty impressive considering he was following up on the success of Christian McCaffrey, who was a rookie with the Carolina Panthers at the time. Love is the type of player the Texans and Gaine need to have on their radar in the later round, even though they like what they have in Buddy Howell.

If Texans can somehow select Love and pair him with Miller and Foreman, that is a good running back group with plenty of depth. Of course, the performance of Love, much like the success of Miller and Foreman, is commensurate on the improvement of the offensive line. If Gaine and the Texans don’t find a way to fix the offensive line, taking Love could prove inconsequential.
