The Houston Texans may have to improvise when it comes to their offensive line against the Tennessee Titans.
Left tackle Laremy Tunsil is dealing with a high ankle sprain that could keep him out the contest.
“They’ll scope it and whatever they do to see if there’s any major injury or not,” interim coach Romeo Crennel said Monday. “They’ll let me know what the prospects are. Whether he’ll play yet, I don’t know yet.”
Along with Tunsil, the Texans may be without guard Brent Qvale, who sustained a concussion in the 37-31 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 16.
“It looked like that on the field he wasn’t moving, probably, he was knocked out,” said Crennel. “So, they took him in and they said that he has a concussion. He’s in the protocol, so whether he can make it out this week or not, I’m not sure.”
Houston will have to take a wait-and-see approach, although the results may not be favorable.
The club is already down a starter in right tackle Tytus Howard, who missed the Bengals loss with a concussion of his own. Howard’s season was ended last week when he was placed on injured reserve.
If the Texans don’t have Tunsil, they will have to move Roderick Johnson, who started at right tackle against Cincinnati, out to left tackle. Replacing Johnson at right tackle would be fourth-round rookie Charlie Heck. Max Scharping could replace Qvale at left guard, although the club also has Senio Kelemete to play along the inside if need be.
