Texans may have found a gem in Alabama State offensive tackle Tytus Howard

The offensive line has been an issue for the Houston Texans and it is no secret. In the 2019 NFL draft, general manager Brian Gaine showed it was time to address the problem.

Gaine selected a new offensive tackle, Tytus Howard, in the first round at pick No. 23 overall. Will Howard be the new left tackle over starter Julién Davenport or will he be the Texans new right tackle? That does not mean Howard won’t have a shot at starting this season though.

Per Pro Football Focus, Howard earned an overall grade of 81.7 when lined up as a right tackle, just below new Denver Broncos tackle Dalton Risner.

Howard stands at 6-5 and weighs 322 pounds. He is a big, physical tackle but does need some development on his footwork. With enough potential there, the former Alabama State tackle could be a gem for the Texans.

This draft was never going to a very appealing draft for the fans because weren’t going to prioritize positions such as wide receiver and running back. Gaine and the Texans knew what they needed and they got exactly that in Howard.
