Texans LT Laremy Tunsil refuses compliment from Saints coach Sean Payton

On a conference call with the Houston media Thursday, New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton had a glowing scouting report on new Texans tackle Laremy Tunsil.

“We have him graded as a top-level offensive tackle,” Payton said. “He’s got a lot of the things you look for trait-wise: size, his experience. I think it’s a big upgrade for them.”

The former 2016 first-round pick for the Miami Dolphins was surprised when he heard those words from the Super Bowl-winning coach.

“Really? Sean Payton said that? Nice,” Tunsil told reporters.

However, Tunsil couldn’t accept the kind words from Payton.

“That’s a compliment,” Tunsil said. “To me, I don’t like compliments. I like to keep my head down and keep working and be as humble as I can.”

The 6-5, 313-pound tackle started all 44 of his 48 possible games played for the Dolphins. The Texans traded a 2020 first-round pick, a 2021 first-round pick, a 2021 second-round pick, tackle Julién Davenport, and cornerback  for Tunsil, receiver Kenny Stills, and a 2020 fourth-round and a 2021 sixth-round pick.
