Texans’ Lamar Miller, D’Onta Foreman could make for impressive running back combo

Lamar Miller is the starting running back in the Houston Texans’ offense, but the return of D’Onta Foreman could make for a dynamic one-two punch in the Houston backfield.

Foreman tore his Achilles on Nov. 19, 2017, and it virtually consumed his 2018 season as he made just two regular season appearances. Now, entering his third season in the NFL, Foreman is in great shape and could provide the Texans’ running game with a nice change of pace from the Pro Bowler in Miller.

“I think he’s been doing a great job,” Miller told reporters June 12 about the progress Foreman is making. “He came back in great shape. He got leaner. He came with a different approach this year. Missing all of last year, so now heading into his third year, he’s very comfortable with the offense.”

Miller produced 973 yards and five touchdowns on 210 carries along with 25 catches for 163 yards and a score in 14 starts for Houston in 2018. Maintaining that level of production along with the insertion of Foreman could yield favorable results.

“We’re looking forward to it,” said Miller. “I’m going to be on him, make sure I’m pushing him. I’m pretty sure he’s going to do the same so we can try to win football games.”

Since Foreman has persevered through his recovery from the torn Achilles, Miller says that the way the former Texas Longhorn works indicates a mindset change throughout the course of his rehabilitation.

Said Miller: “I’m pretty sure everybody’s seen some of the videos that he’s been posting on Instagram and stuff. Just coming back, being in shape, leaner. You can tell that he took his offseason pretty seriously. So, hopefully he keeps improving.”

If the Texans can have an effective tandem in Miller and Foreman, it will help them fill the void left with Alfred Blue leaving for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Furthermore, it should help ease the burden of quarterback Deshaun Watson.
