HOUSTON — After a career performance during a Week 5 loss to the New England at NRG Stadium, the Houston Texans added wide receiver Chris Moore to their 53-man roster on Tuesday.
Moore caught five passes for 109 yards and a touchdown while filling in for the injured Danny Amendola.
As a player who was elevated from the practice squad, Moore’s contributions may have been surprising to the general public. But Texans’ offensive coordinator Tim Kelly always believed Moore could produced at the NFL level if given the opportunity.
“He does a great job out there when we ask him to fill in, he’s come in and made plays for us,” Kelly said ahead of Thursday’s practice. “Even going back to the preseason, he made some big plays for us in the Dallas game, he made a big catch for us in the Tampa game. We are looking forward for him continuing to grow in this offense.”
Moore was designated to the Texans practice squad to begin the season prior to his performance against the Patriots.
It was the first time in his career Moore began the season on the practice squad after the Baltimore Ravens drafted the Cincinnati prodigy in the 4th round (No. 107th overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft.
Before signing a one-year contract Moore spent his entire career with the Ravens recording 511 yards on 47 catches and four touchdowns.
“If that’s not the epitome of being ready when your number is called,” Brandin Cooks said. “This guy comes to work every single day, he works his tail off, he gets called up and his opportunity came, and he took advantage of it.
“It was definitely awesome to be able to see him go out there and make those types of plays.”
