Texans get destroyed for their awful defensive move in final seconds of loss to Saints

The Houston Texans scored a touchdown in the final minute Monday to tie Saints. Then after their kicker missed the extra point they got a second chance thanks to a questionable roughing the kicker call and took the lead.

Then a few minutes later they gave the game away to Drew Brees, who hit Ted Ginn on a short pass in the final seconds which led to Wil Lutz’s game-winning, 58-yard FG on the very next play.

What everyone watching was wondering, and which was brought up by ESPN’s announcers, is why did the Texans go into a prevent defense during the final drive, which especially made it so easy for Ginn to get the seven yards needed for the FG attempt?

The Saints didn’t need to go for a Hail Mary, they just needed seven more yards for a FG attempt. The prevent defense gave Brees all the space he needed to put his team in a spot to win the game.
