Texans fire general manager Brian Gaine; Chris Olsen to be interim GM

The Houston Texans have fired general manager Brian Gaine, the club announced today.

According to a statement from Texans chairman and CEO Cal McNair, the team recognized the unusual timing of the decision but believed it was in the best interest of their quest for a championship.

“After a thorough evaluation of our football operations, we have decided to relieve Brian Gaine of his duties as general manager,” the statement read. “Brian is a man of high character and we appreciate his contributions to our organization. We will begin an immediate search for a new GM.”

According to McNair, senior vice president of football administration Chris Olsen will take over as interim general manager.

“While the timing may be unusual, this decision was made in the best interest of our organization in our quest to build a championship team for the City of Houston,” McNair said.

The Texans hired Gaine in the 2018 offseason to take over for Rick Smith. Gaine spent the prior season with the Buffalo Bills as their vice president of player personnel, and three seasons with the Texans’ front office prior to that.
