After an 0-4 start, the Houston Texans are making major changes. According to reports, they have decided to fire head coach and general manager Bill O’Brien. According to Adam Schefter, Romeo Crennel is expected to take over as interim head coach.
O’Brien had been head coach of the Texans since 2014 when he took over after the team fired Gary Kubiak. This January, O’Brien was also given the title of general manager, a role that was left vacant for the entire 2019 season.
During his time in Houston, O’Brien led the Texans to a record of 52-48 across six-plus seasons. The Texans made the playoffs four times on his watch, going 2-4 in postseason games.
O’Brien came under heavy fire this offseason for the roster moves he made. The most notable, of course, was his decision to trade DeAndre Hopkins to the Cardinals in a package that included David Johnson. He also acquired Brandin Cooks from the Rams for a second round-round pick; Los Angeles sent Houston a fourth-rounder along with Cooks.
The Texans don’t have a first- or second-round pick in the 2021 draft thanks to the Laremy Tunsil and Kenny Stills trade.
