Texans’ fifth-round tight end Brevin Jordan wants to wear No. 9

New Houston Texans tight end Brevin Jordan wants to be among the first NFL players to take advantage of the league’s relaxed policies towards jersey numbers.

On Twitter, the Texans’ Round 5 pick (No. 147 overall) posted a photoshopped image of himself wearing the Texans’ white road uniforms at NRG Stadium. The photoshopped image showed Jordan wearing the No. 9.

The NFL expanded the jersey numbers for skill position players on offense and defense. Instead of being pigeon-holed into picking between numbers 40-49 and then 80-89, tight ends now have the ability to choose numbers 1-49, which makes Jordan’s old jersey numbers with Miami eligible for the NFL.

Albeit coincidental, Jordan wearing a jersey with the colors of the United States men’s basketball Olympic team along with the number nine evokes imagery familiar with sports fans.

Currently, there are no players on the Texans’ roster who have the number nine. The last to do so was punter Bryan Anger, who played 30 games for the Texans from 2019-20.
