Texans exploring Earl Thomas as replacement for Tyrann Mathieu

The Houston Texans are in need of a safety and the Seattle Seahawks might just have the solution . . . Earl Thomas remains one of the top free agents available at the position.

The Texans attempted to keep their own star free agent safety on the roster, but ultimaltely lost Tyrann Mathieu to the Chiefs on what amounts to three-year, $42 million deal. Mathieu joines Eric Berry in Kansas City for now, but Berry might not be sticking around for long after the Honey Badger signs his contract.

Rumblings Monday evening point towards the Texans exploring Thomas as a replacement safety – although an expensive one – for Houston.

Thomas, who has been seeking a trade or extension from Seattle over the last year, is one of the last marquee free agents safeties available although he’s been reported to be seeking the most money.

Landon Collins and Mathieu both landed themselves monster deals and Thomas is undoubtedly looking to top both players’ salaries.

Will Houston be the team to make Thomas the highest-paid safety in the league? The legal tampering period continues until the official start of free agency on March 13 so stay tuned.
